| WELCOME TO BOB'S BLOG: WE TURN OUR SPACE OVER TO COUNTRY MUSIC SINGER\SONGWRITER LARRY GATLIN AND HIS INSIGHT ON WHAT IS HAPPENING TO OUR NATION. (Editor's note) Had the honor of serving as MC for a show featuring Larry and his brothers at the State MUsic Hall in Uniontown, Pennsylvania decades ago. They were a delight to work with...and the audience loved them. To try to crack up his brothers and their band while they were performing onstage, I will never forget Larry standing on his head (perfectly) just off stage where his brothers and the band (but not the audience could see him.)--Bob Logue LARRY GATLIN: Who Will Stand for the Working Man? By Larry Gatlin Published August 23, 2010 | FoxNews.com "Here I sit high, gettin' ideas, ain't nothin' but a fool would live like this Out all night, runnin' wild, woman sittin' home with a month old Dang me, dang me, ought-a take a rope and hang me High from the highest tree, woman would you weep for me?" These immortal (or immoral) words were written by my dear friend, the late great Roger Miller, about a lazy, good for nothin', beer guzzling', absentee husband, who deserves to be "hung from the highest tree". He went on to say, " I'm the seventh of seven sons, my pappy was a pistol, I'm a son of a gun. Well, my pappy Is still a pistol and good son of a gun.. Gatling Gun, get it? But unlike the lazy, hard drinking, alcoholic horse's rear in Roger Miller's song, My father, Marine Corp.Curley Gatlin, does not deserve to be "hung from the highest tree". You see, Corp. Gatlin went to work this morning, and just about every morning of his 84 years. He did not leave my mother at home with a "month old child"...unless he was going to work! He worked hard, really hard, to feed my mother, my two brothers, Steve and Rudy, my sister La Donna and me. He not only worked hard, he taught us to work hard. He taught us that work was what a man does. He taught us that work is noble, that work is, in some great cosmic sense, cleansing, and that a man was pretty much a good fer nuthin' "so and so", if he wouldn't cinch up his belt and figure out a way to feed his family. Please do not misunderstand me, I know that jobs are hard to find in America today. Well, jobs were hard find in America in 1956 too, but daddy always found one. He moved my mother and me and my new baby brother, Steve, 7 times the year Steve was born...... He moved with the drilling rig. He moved with his...job. That is what working men do, they find work. But now the jobs have been spirited away under the cover of night. -- In other words, in the halls of Congress, to a place where working men cannot get to them, the black hole on the Potomac. Thousands of hardworking people are now being deprived of the ennobling, cleansing, bill-paying, kid-feeding endeavor, called work, by a bunch of louts who don't know what work is. DEAR GOD HOW DID IT EVER COME TO THIS?? HOPE AND CHANGE MY....Well, you know. Only a few days after the cataclysmic event known as THE BIG SPILL, President Obama and a bunch of "touchy-feely, warm and fuzzy, kumbaya singin', tree huggin' granola eatin,' Birkenstock wearin', platitude spewing hypocrites, reflexively, "knee-jerkedly" mandated, that's right, MANDATED, that the hardworking people in the Gulf states, were either going to have resort to robbing a bank, mugging an old lady or paying their MasterCard bill with their American Express card, or be forced by the above mentioned "louts who do not know what work is," to do what no hard-working, kid feeding, bill paying, Birkenstock-hating, good son-of-a-gun wants to do... Go on the "dole," Become a ward of the state, take an unemployment check...Take money for not working. Dear God, the mere thought of it makes me sick....and it makes me want to fight. And fight I will. I will fight for those who do not have the privilege, and awesome responsibility of writing op-eds for FoxNews.com and being on Hannity and The O' Reilly Factor and Americas Nightly Scoreboard with David Asman, those folks who don't get to stand up and sing songs about what a great country this is and how badly the Pirates of the Potomac are ____it up! I will fight for the working man. Merle Haggard nailed it: "Hey, hey workin' man, workin' man like me Ain't never been on welfare, that's one place I won't be 'Cause I'll keep on working, long as my two hands are fit to use Drink a little beer at a tavern, sing a little bit of them workin' man blues." Attaboy HAG!! Great song, Which brings me back to Roger Miller's great song: "Dang me, Dang me, ought-a take a rope and hang me High from the highest tree, woman would you weep for me?" You are probably asking,"where are you going with all of this?" Well, here it is. The "touchy-feely, warm and fuzzy pirates mentioned above...well, I reckon that hangin' 'em might be goin' a little bit too far (just barely) , but they should at the very least be whooped around the head and shoulders with an old Birkenstock for mandating the ban on drilling in the Gulf. Yes, the spill is is horrible..Yes, some big muckety mucks *blew it.* Yes, things happened that should not have happened. This just in It aint a perfect world. Deal with it! Those who "do not know what work is" should not be allowed to put those who do know what work is, well, out of work, by reflexively, knee-jerkedly, playing god (no caps for this usage) with people's lives...especially when everybody knows that the would be "god players," do not really give a rat's rear end about the people of the Gulf... They are simply playing (god) to their political base. I am NOT unaware of the dangers inherent in "pokin' holes in the ground (or the sea floor) where the dinosaurs died" (technical term...drilling for oil where the geological data has determined that there is oil) I was born and reared in the oil fields of West Texas. I know what it is about and I know that sometimes things just blow up. Sometimes people get hurt. Sometimes people get killed. Sometimes, for no apparent reason, things happen. Well, damn it, hunger happens, too. Bills happen, too. And to deprive people of making a living for fear of killing a bunch of birds, some shrimp, and some marshlands, and soiling some beaches, is total horse manure. I am not a whacko who doesn't understand the ramifications of all of this. It's terrible. It will take years for things to get back to normal. But, summarily depriving a man of the ability to feed his family, to vouchsafe his manhood, to keep his hard earned self-respect intact, in order to appease some doofuses (it's a technical term...well, pick one) at Greenpeace, to push some self-righteous agenda down people's throats, and in so doing, take away the man's inalienable right to feed his kids? As I asked before, dear God, how did it come to this?? The shrimp will come back. The birds will come back. The marshes will come back. Jobs will not come back...if someone doesn't put a stop to this mandated madness! I say, bring out the DOOFUS at GREENPEACE. Bring out the "don't know what work is louts" and, what the heck, bring out OUR COMMUNITY ORGANIZER- in-CHIEF...Bring out an old Birkenstock, give it to CORP. CURLEY GATLIN, and give him about 20 minutes with them. Give him permission to "tap around on them" a little bit (on occasion he tapped around on me...and look how good, or is it well, I turned out) and I guarantee you that they will think twice before they reflexively, knee-jerkedly, MANDATE AWAY THE RIGHT OF WORKING MEN...TO WORK!! And if, after Corp. Gatlin gets through "tapping around on them," they still want to play God, by denying workin' men the right to work...Hang 'em from the highest tree! Larry Gatlin is a songwriter/musician. *********************************************************** Read this.... Just when I thought we might have hit bottom, along comes an unbelievably idiotic question like this. You will simply not believe this. Our 8th District US Congressional representative, the Hon. Gabrielle Giffords, in a meeting of the House Armed Services Committee, asked General David Petraeus the following question: "General Petraeus, what are you doing to reduce carbon emissions in the war on terror?" Wow. I had to read, and re-read this several times to believe it. Folks, there are American sons and daughters dying every week on the foreign battlefields of southwest Asia . The nation is completely bankrupt and ... quite literally, borrowing 43 cents for every dollar in federal spending. We have the largest environmental disaster in the nation's history in the Gulf of Mexico , and we have Mexican drug armies invading our nation. And yet ....A member of Congress from Arizona 's 8th congressional district took the time to ask our battlefield commander what he is doing to curb carbon emissions in the war. Gabrielle Giffords is the poster-child for what is wrong with the US Congress. We are being led by imbeciles. To the rest of America reading this blog, and to Gen. Petraeus if this e-mail makes it to your inbox ... my sincerest apologies for the stupid question asked of you by my US congressional representative. General ... I am sure you have better things to worry about than carbon emissions on the battlefield. I assure you, as a registered voter in Arizona 's 8th congressional district, I will do everything I can to ensure Rep. Giffords is voted out of office in November, and I pray you'll get back to business of fighting the war on terror without worrying about such petty and nonsensical matters as your carbon footprint in fighting a war. Mark Beres, Maj. USAF (ret.) Tucson, Arizona FYI: The 8th District surrounds Tucson to the north, south and east ( Tucson is in the 7th District) and covers the south-east corner of AZ. What Google says about Rep. Giffords: Representative Gabrielle Giffords (D-Az) took Afghan Commander, General David Petraeus, to task for what she characterized as willful disregard of the environmental impact of our war effort. There is no policy, no plan to minimize carbon emissions in our military activities, Giffords charged. Bombs are dropped and bullets are fired without considering the environmental impact. Giffords insisted that she was not demanding an immediate halt to current military operations in the Middle East . Im just saying that battle plans should include an environmental impact assessment as a regular part of the process before attacks are launched. She also suggested that the Army put more emphasis on less environmentally damaging methods, like stabbing or clubbing enemy forces in order to minimize the carbon output. New Rules of Engagement: I think we ought to put her on the front lines so she can stab or club the enemy. God help us if there are anymore idiots like this elected to office. Walk softly and carry a big knife or big stick to save the environment. +++ The owner of the Phoenix Suns Basketball team opposes Arizona's immigration law. Governor Brewer supposedly responded thusly: "What if the owners of the Suns discovered that hordes of people were sneaking into games without paying? What if they had a good idea who the gate-crashers are, but the ushers and security personnel were not allowed to ask these folks to produce their ticket stubs, thus non-paying attendees couldn't be ejected. Furthermore, what if Suns' ownership was expected to provide those who sneaked in with complimentary eats and drink? And what if, on those days when a gate-crasher became ill or injured, the Suns had to provide free medical care and shelter?" -Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer One of the latest polls indicates only 11% of Americans have great confidence in Congress...the lowest figure ever. If you'rte happy with Congress and the direction President Obama is 'leading' this nation...then vote for Democrats in the fall election. If, like me, you are fearful for our nation's every existence by what I view as a tremendous void in leadership in the White House and Congress...then it would be wise to vote Republican in the fall. I have been a registered Democrat for about 40 years...and vote for persons rather than party in each election. But I have such great fear for the future of our nation under the current leadership, I will vote Party in the November election to undercut the marjorities in Congress for the Democrats thereby slowing down Obama's madness. Joe Sestak, Running for the US Senate is a Democrat. In a recent tiff over an ad by his opponent Pat Toomey (Republican) that said Sestak votes 100% for Nancy Pelosi and his party on all major issues. Sestak said "That's not true, I only vote straight party 97.2% of the time. Wow...how's that for independent thinking. Sestak will be an automatic vote for the Obama-Pelosi-Reed agenda. Same is true of Mark Critz in the late Congressman Murtha's old seat. Be sure you vote against Critz...he's another rubber stamp in the mold of Murtha. Pat Toomey will not. Therefore I will vote for Pat Toomey...and hope you will consider doing that, too. Please urge everyone you know to get registered...and to vote against our current leadership in Washington...by voting for the Republican. We have all probably had near misses in our life...incidents where we could have been severely injured or killed. As most Undercover Clubbers know, I purchased a 1930 Model A Ford and have driven it quite a bit without a problem. Recently, our Mon Valley Chapter of the Antique Automobile Club Of America members took a tour (drive) through West Virginia to Cass Railroad. At one point in the drive, we encountered a 10% grade hill...which is very steep. During the descent, the brakes of the Model A (which are manual--not hydraulic) began to fail. As I was struggling trying to keep the car from running away down the hill with Etta and me in it...and as the car was rolling faster and faster...one of our club members and his wife in a mid 1950's gorgeous Pontiac, sped by me on my left, and then after allowing me some space...he pulled back in front of my 'runaway' car. Using the hand brake and the 30% or so of the foot brake that I had left, I managed to get the car stopped on the berm of the road. Lloyd and Jane Riggs of Uniontown, PA had placed themselves and their vehicle at risk. Knowing that I was encountering difficulties...these kind souls, that I only met a year ago when I joined the AACA Mon Valley Chapter, put themselves in harms way with the intent of stopping my car from running further down the hill and perhaps killing or injuring my wife, Etta and me, not to mention destroying our beloved 1930 Model A. The next day, while browsing at an 1880 General Store in Slateyfork near our hotel at Snowshoe, West Virginia, Lloyd found and bought a banner to tease me with...and remind me of this experience so I don't make the same mistakes--the problem was with the inexperienced driver --not the car--in the future.
